Marcelo von Schwartz was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is in Buenos Aires where he studies architecture and filmmaking. In 1987 he makes his first two short films, for cinema and video.

 

Since 1989 he lives in Barcelona, where he interweaves his work as an architect with other creative and artistic activities.

 

In Barcelona he trains with Yago Pericot at theInstitut del Teatre de Barcelona and makes several stage designs –for the Barcelona Olympic Games 1992 with Alfredo Arribas and Mariscal, and for the Condal Theatre among others- and looks seriously into screenwriting and filmmaking.

 

In 1995 he works as Art Director and Production Designer for some short films and for the feature filmDead for Monday, by Joaquín Torres.

 

In 1996 writes and produces the 35mm short film Phoenix. This film competes in over 30 world-wide festivals winning recognition and prizes: Special Prize of the Jury in the Brno Festival (Czech Republic), First Prize in the Grenzland Filmtage (Germany), Special Prize and Selection on the ProgrammeStars on Thirty-five,IMPAKT Festival, Utrecht, Nederland, Short Selection of the Year in Mataró Film Festival (Spain), Short Selection of the Year in Cinema Club L’Hospitalet (Barcelona), among others.

 

In 1997 he funds the producing company MANIFESTO and produces some documentaries, among others Gaudí Moving(1998-2008) with the collaboration of the Spanish choreographer Toni Mira, co-financed by the Media Programme, European Community, and was selected to participate in the Official Section of several Film Festivals.

 

Since 2000 he writes some scripts for cinema and prepares some documentary projects for TV.

 

In 2004 he produces and edits the video-art Trayectos Extremos, in collaboration with the painter and photographer Patricio Reig. Was presented by Segovia-Isaacs Art Gallery (Barcelona) in ArtMiami 2005, and acquisited by a particular collector.

 

In 2005 finishes the video-arthOPENING in collaboration with Patricio Reig, presented in ARCO 2005 by the Karpio Gallery, Miami, Fla,USA.

 

In 2005 he finishesCarne, a creative documentary about an abattoir, and the video-art Los viajes de la Memoria.

 

In 2007 he fundsHappy Ending Films, a production company for independent feature films. Also co-produces Buscando el Sol, a creative documentary about the Barcelona Homless people.

Now he is working in a new creative documentary about the boxing world, and preparing Dark Bridge, his first long film.
